This award is named in honor of Vivian Shipley, a Connecticut State University Distinguished Professor Emeritus who has written 12 books of poetry. Her last book, Archaeology of Days (2019) was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. She is a recipient of the Library of Congress’s Connecticut Lifetime Achievement Award for Service to the Literary Community and she has twice won the Connecticut Book Award for poetry.
- The contest is open to all.
- There is a reading fee of $15 per entry.
- You may submit up to three original poems in a single file, with no contact information listed on the poems.
- Only electronic submissions will be accepted.
- The following prizes will be awarded: $1000, $100, and $50 for first, second, and third, respectively.
- The winning poems will be published in Connecticut River Review and winners will receive a two-year membership in the Connecticut Poetry Society.
